Ruth Coker Burks

Ruth Coker Burks

Icon of Ruth Coker Burks, who gave up her career as a successful real estate agent to help AIDS patients that had no one to care for them during the AIDS epidemic in the late 1980s. Because of the stigma surrounding the disease at the time, she was often the only one who would look after them until they eventually died. She buried many of them in her own family cemetery in Hot Springs, Arkansas.

Ruth is painted in acrylic on a Loxley Gold box canvas and has two layers of varnish. It is signed on the reverse in pencil. All edges are painted and varnished.

The image size is 12.5cm x 25cm (5" x 10").
