Icon of Absolam Jones, an abolitionist and clergyman who became prominent in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He founded the Free African Society, a mutual aid society for African Americans in the city. He was also the first African American to be ordained as a priest in the Episcopal Church of the United States.
Absolam is painted in acrylic on a Loxley Gold box canvas and has two layers of varnish. It is signed on the reverse in pencil. All edges are painted and varnished.
