Icon of Sergei Bulgakov
Fr. Sergius Nikolaevich Bulgakov was Russian Orthodox Christian theologian, philosopher, and economist in the early twentieth century. For Bulgakov, the flesh is good, and through transformation, can become divine. The ‘Body of Christ’ is a literal statement, and something which we, through the process of theosis, become.
“In the life of every man, there are constantly occurring miracles.”
This is part of the series of traditional and Orthodox saints, which derives from a range of sources, including manuscripts, other icons and mosaics. Some icons include 24 carat gold highlights.
Sergei Bulgakov is painted in acrylic on a Loxley Gold box canvas and has two layers of varnish. It is signed on the reverse in pencil. All edges are painted and varnished.
This is one of a series of traditional saints; see my gallery for other images.
