The Assumption of the Virgin. The Virgin Mary's assumption into heaven; the body and soul of Christ's mother were taken up to heaven by angels three days after her death
The series of Historiated Initials is based on illustrations from manuscripts, and depicts a range of different saints and scenes from the Bible. Many of the initials are highlighted with 24 carat gold leaf.
The assumption of the Virgin is painted in acrylic on a Loxley Gold box canvas and has two layers of varnish. It is signed on the reverse in pencil. All edges are painted and varnished.
