St Osyth, daughter of a chieftain of the Mercians in England and Wilburga, daughter of the powerful pagan King Penda of Mercia.
The series of Historiated Initials is based on illustrations from manuscripts, and depicts a range of different saints and scenes from the Bible. Many of the initials are highlighted with 24 carat gold leaf.
St Osyth is painted in acrylic on a Loxley Gold box canvas and has two layers of varnish. It is signed on the reverse in pencil. All edges are painted and varnished.
