Hannah, Peninnah and Elkanah.

I Samuel 1:1,2 'Now there was a certain man from Ramathaim-zophim from the hill country of Ephraim, and his name was Elkanah the son of Jeroham, the son of Elihu, the son of Tohu, the son of Zuph, an Ephraimite. And he had two wives; the name of the one was Hannah, and the name of the other Peninnah: and Peninnah had children, but Hannah had no children.'

The series of Historiated Initials is based on illustrations from manuscripts, and depicts a range of different saints and scenes from the Bible. Many of the initials are highlighted with 24 carat gold leaf.

Hannah is painted in acrylic on a Loxley Gold box canvas and has two layers of varnish. It is signed on the reverse in pencil. All edges are painted and varnished.

This is one of a series of historiated initial paintings.

The image size is 20cm x 25cm (8" x 10").
