Eagle of Luminous Souls (sb)

Eagle of Luminous Souls (sb)

This is a small painting based on a woodcut by Gustave Dore to illustrate Dante's Divine Comedy. This is from Paradise XIX, lines 1-3; ‘Appeared before me with its wings outspread / The beautiful image that in sweet fruition / Made jubilant the interwoven souls.’

This image is painted in acrylic on a Loxley Gold box canvas and has two layers of varnish. All edges are painted and varnished and it is signed on the reverse in pencil. The image size is 10cm x 15cm (4" x 6").

This is one of a series of paintings that I have created on this theme.
