The Eagle of Luminous Souls


This image is based on a woodcut illustration by Dore of Dante's Divine Comedy by Dante. It is from Paradise XIX, lines 1 - 3, the image of an eagle made up of many souls; 'Appeared before me with its wings outspread/The beautiful image that in sweet fruition/Made jubilant the interwoven saints.'

It is painted in acrylic on a Loxley Gold box canvas and has two layers of varnish. It is signed on the reverse in pencil. All edges are painted and varnished. The image size is 20cm x 25cm (8" x 10").
