Beatrice leads Dante towards the Fifth Heaven (yellow)

500.00

This painting is based on a woodcut by Gustave Dore to illustrate Dante's Divine Comedy. This is from Paradise XIV, where Beatrice and Dante approach the Fifth Heaven. Lines 85 - 87; 'Well was I ware that I was more uplifted/By the enkindled smiling of the star, /That seemed to me more ruddy than its wont.'

This image is painted in acrylic on a Loxley Gold box canvas and has two layers of varnish. All edges are painted and varnished and it is signed on the reverse in pencil. The image size is 20cm x 25cm (8" x 10").

This is one of a series of paintings that I have created on this theme.
