A Thousand Splendours (sy)


This pictures is based on a woodcut by Dore illustrating Dante's Divine Comedy. It illustrates Paradise V, lines 103 - 104, a vision of luminous souls; 'So I beheld more than a thousand splendours/Drawing towards us.' 

It is painted in acrylic on a Loxley Gold box canvas and has two layers of varnish. It is signed on the reverse in pencil. All edges are painted and varnished. The image size is 10cm x 15cm (4" x 6").
