Paradise as Snow White Rose


This painting is based on a woodcut by Dore illustrating Dante's Divine Comedy by Dante. It depicts Paradise XXXI, lines 1 - 2. 'In fashion then as of a snow-white rose/Displayed itself to me the saintly host.'

It is painted in acrylic on a Loxley Gold box canvas and has two layers of varnish. All edges are painted and varnished. It is signed on the reverse in pencil. The image size is 20cm x 25cm (8" x 10").

This is one of a series of paintings from the Divine Comedy.
