Icon of Hedd Wyn (Ellis Humphrey Evans)

Icon of Hedd Wynn, (Ellis Humphrey Evans) a Welsh-language poet who was killed on the first day of the Battle of Passchendaele in World War I. Six weeks after he died Evans was posthumously awarded the Bard's chair at the 1917 National Eisteddfod.

The series of British saints attests to over a thousand years of Christian witness in the British Isles. Subjects range from Saint David of Wales to Cuthbert, William Wilberforce to Evelyn Underhill.

Hedd Wyn is painted in acrylic on a Loxley Gold box canvas and has two layers of varnish. It is signed on the reverse in pencil. All edges are painted and varnished.

This is one of a series of saints of the British Isles; see my shop for other images.

The image size is 20cm x 25cm (8" x 10").
